The Natural Right to Self-Defense
The Case for Abortion as a Basic Human Right of Bodily Autonomy
In a free society, every individual should have the unconditional right to choose what they do or do not do with their own bodies, and this includes a woman's right to have an abortion, as well as a person's right to have or not have any medical intervention. These are deeply personal decisions that should not be dictated by the state or any other external entity. However, in recent times, the debate around these issues has become highly polarized, with some individuals attempting to impose their beliefs on others.
The following videos feature two women from different parts of the world who experienced the loss of their limbs during childbirth, serving as a stark reminder of the genuine and potentially fatal risks that pregnancy can present to a woman's physical well-being.
It is worth noting that in many cases, medical professionals are unable to predict such complications, and in areas where access to abortion is restricted, women may be denied the option of terminating the pregnancy due to the absence of a clear threat to their health. The mere possibility of such harm, regardless of how rare or common it may be, reinforces the critical importance of safeguarding a woman's right to choose what is best for her own body and well-being.
While the decision of a woman to have a child is certainly worthy of celebration, it is crucial to acknowledge that this choice must never be imposed upon her against her will. Just as a person who witnesses a fire has the choice to risk their life and limb to save someone or not, a woman has the right to choose whether to carry a pregnancy to term or not.
For those who perceive abortion as an act of taking a life, it is crucial to contemplate the principle of self-defense. In the year 2021, the United States alone recorded 1,205 maternal deaths among women, which highlights that this is just one country out of many in the world. For those who desire to have a child, the potential harm of pregnancy may be viewed as a noble sacrifice, while for those who do not, it is an unacceptable burden. Forcing a woman to carry a pregnancy to term against her will is a violation of her bodily autonomy and her right to self-defense.
In conclusion, the right to bodily autonomy is a fundamental principle of a free society. True freedom lies in the unwavering right of every person to make decisions regarding their own body. A woman's choice to have an abortion, and a person's decision to accept or refuse any medical intervention, including vaccination, are integral parts of this right. These decisions must be respected, and individuals should be free to make them without fear of judgment or persecution. By upholding this principle of bodily autonomy, we can ensure that every individual is able to live their life according to their own beliefs and values.
Abortion is not a right. Having sex is a choice. Having unprotected sex is a choice. When it's not consensual it is considered rape or sexual assault.
If there's a significant chance baby or mother will die in the process of delivery - it then becomes a matter of what's best for the entire family, and who is most likely to survive, not just 'kill the baby' and problem solved.
Demanding rights to abortion isn't much different than of me saying I don't want a brother, therefore I should have the right to kill him... Or parents saying one is enough, yet you did nothing to reduce the chances of having a second child.
Abortion is murder. Abortion is not taking accountability for a pregnancy that most likely is the result of consensual sex. People need to take responsibility for their actions instead of demanding the right to kill to somehow absolve them from wreckessly and purposely getting knocked up.
